Personal Tax Return Checklist

Get started by compiling the following information:

  • All T Slips: (i.e.: T3, T4, T4A, T4E, T4RIF, T4RSP, T4AP (CPP), T4AOAS (Old Age Security), T5, T5013)
  • RRSP contributions receipts
  • Annual union, professional dues (attach receipts)
  • Medical expenses (attach receipts) and details of private health insurance premiums, including amounts paid while travelling
  • Donations and/or political contributions
  • Receipts for child care, lunch supervision, and weekly camps
  • New family members, name and date of birth (and SIN if applicable)
  • If you sold your Principal Residence in 2017, information on cost and proceeds
  • Public transit passes/receipts for January to June 2017
  • Post-secondary tuition amounts (T2202/TL11)
  • Interest paid on student loans (attach reporting slip)
  • Disability amount (T2201)
  • Rental property revenue and expense amounts
  • Commission and employment expenses (include details and T2200)
  • Self-employment business revenue and expense amounts
  • Capital gains or loss (proceeds from sale and original cost)
  • Alimony and/or child support information
  • First time home buyer tax credit – date in 2017 you purchased the home and if you are the only one claiming this credit
  • Investment management fees (non RRSP or TFSA accounts)
  • Details on foreign property (includes investments) owned in 2017, if aggregate cost at any time during the year is in excess of $100,000 CDN
  • Moving Expenses (attach receipts) for moves at least 40 kms closer to your new place of work. Generally, your move must be from one place in Canada to another place in Canada.
  • Information regarding any changes in marital status
  • Adoption expenses
